A Farmhouse Door That Folds While It Slides
A standard barn door needs a clear run of wall beside the opening at least as wide as the door itself. Most hallways do not have that. They have a light switch, a picture, a return wall. The Bifold Farmhouse solves it by breaking the door in half: two hinged leaves ride the same flat track, and as you pull, the pair folds against itself instead of running past the jamb.
The face is knotty alder in a warm stain, laid up in vertical planks with visible V grooves between them and an angled brace across the lower field of each leaf. Closed, the groove lines and brace angles are laid out so the pair reads as one braced slab rather than two halves that happen to be next to each other.
You still get the black steel track and the roller hangers running across the header. You just need about half the wall to park it.
Design Details
Folds As It Slides
The leaves are hinged at the center, so the door stacks against itself as it travels. It clears an opening that would defeat a single slab of the same width.
Knotty Alder Planks
Vertical boards with real V grooves between them, chosen with the knots left in. The character of the wood is the point.
Angled Lower Brace
Each leaf carries its own brace across the lower field, which keeps the farmhouse language intact even when the door is folded open.
Reads as One Door Closed
Groove lines and brace angles are laid out so the closed pair looks like a single braced slab, not two halves.
The Hinge Is Where a Folding Door Fails
A bifold gets handled twice as often as a plain slider, and every fold drives load through the hinge and straight into the panel behind it. Hollow core doors crush around the hinge screws and the leaves start to sag out of plane. Ours are solid alder, built to your opening in Pipersville, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, so the fasteners bite into wood. Lifetime warranty, same as every door we make.
