Boards of Every Length, Fitted Together
The Industrial Slat is built from horizontal boards of varying widths and lengths, butted end to end and staggered so no two seams line up. It is the logic of a plank floor turned on its side, and it produces a face that has depth and randomness without ever looking accidental.
Each board takes stain a little differently, which is the whole point. Run your eye across the door and you get a dozen shades of the same color, with the darker knots and the lighter sapwood breaking up the field.
Hung as a bypass pair across a wide opening the staggering carries from panel to panel, and the seam between the two doors reads as one more joint in a wall of them.
Design Details
Staggered Horizontal Boards
Random lengths, offset seams. No repeating course, no visible module, nothing that reads as a manufactured pattern.
Variation in the Stain
Each board carries its own grain and takes color at its own rate, so a single finish produces a range of tones across the face.
Reads as Reclaimed
The look of salvaged lumber, built from new solid stock that will actually hold a straight edge and a square corner.
Scales to a Bypass Pair
On two panels the courses continue rather than mirror, and the joint between the doors disappears into the pattern.
A Hundred Joints, One Panel
A door assembled from dozens of short boards has dozens of chances to move. Getting one to stay flat is a matter of species, moisture content and how the courses are laid up, and there is no shortcut. We build every one in Pipersville, Pennsylvania and back it for as long as you own it.
