Deep Reeding, Framed and Squared
Where our Clean Fluted door lets the reeding run wild to the edges, this one boxes it in. A narrow perimeter frame squares off the flute field, giving the pattern a hard border and the door a more traditional footprint. It is the difference between a texture and a panel, and in a room with existing casing or trim, the framed version tends to sit better.
The reeds themselves are deeper and rounder than the ones on our clean-faced door. They catch more light on the crown and hold more shadow in the valley, so the face has real relief to it rather than a whisper of one.
In a warm stain the effect is closest to old radiator covers and midcentury cabinet fronts, where reeding was structural as much as decorative. It suits a room that already has some wood in it and does not want a second flat surface.
Design Details
Boxed Flute Field
A narrow frame runs the perimeter and stops the reeding cleanly at each edge, so the door reads as a panel and lines up with existing casework and trim.
Deeper Half Round Reeds
The profile is taller and more rounded than a standard flute. More crown, more valley, and a face that holds shadow instead of just hinting at it.
Grain Across the Ribs
Stained, each rib takes the color a little differently depending on how the grain runs through it. The face gets depth from the wood, not just the milling.
Sanded as One Face
Ribs and frame are leveled together after assembly so your hand runs across the joint without catching. It is slow to do and immediately obvious when it has not been done.
Why the Substrate Matters Here
Deep reeding puts a lot of surface area on the front of a door and very little on the back, which is exactly the condition that makes a cheap slab cup. We build these solid, in Pipersville, Pennsylvania, from wood chosen and oriented to resist that pull. No hollow core, no veneered MDF, no filler. The door is backed by our lifetime warranty against warping for as long as it hangs in your home.
