A Slatted Face, Solid All the Way Through
The Vertical Slat looks like an open screen from across a room and turns out to be a solid door when you reach it. The face is a run of vertical boards with deep V grooves cut between them, so each board throws its own shadow line and the slab reads as a series of slats rather than a single plane.
It is the compromise door for anyone who loves the look of our Japanese Slat but needs a pantry or closet that actually stays shut. All the vertical rhythm, none of the sight lines through it.
In a warm stain the grooves go dark and the board faces stay bright, and the whole door has an easy vertical cadence that makes a standard opening look taller than it is.
Design Details
Deep V Groove Seams
The groove between each board is cut deep enough to hold a real shadow, which is what sells the slatted look on a solid face.
Solid, Not Open
Full privacy and full sound separation. The slats are visual, not structural gaps.
Vertical Emphasis
The repeating line pulls the eye upward and makes a standard height opening read taller than its measurements.
Warm Stain, Honest Grain
Boards are stained rather than painted so the grain runs uninterrupted through the slat rhythm.
Grooves Are Where Doors Fail
Every groove removes material from the front face and leaves the back face intact, which is an invitation for a slab to cup. It is the reason grooved doors built over hollow cores rarely stay flat. Ours are built solid, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, from stock selected and oriented against that pull, and carry a lifetime warranty.
