Three Lites, Stacked in a Shaker Frame
The 3 Lite Shaker is a study in restraint. A plain shaker frame, three glazed openings stacked vertically, and a clean rail between each one. There is no muntin work, no grid, no arch, nothing except the rhythm of three squares in a column.
Because the rails between the lites are narrow and even, the door reads as one tall glazed field that has been divided rather than three windows that were assembled. That distinction is what keeps it modern.
Hung as a bypass pair in white, as shown, the six lites line up across the opening and the whole wall becomes a lantern for the room behind it.
Design Details
Three Even Lites
Equal openings stacked in a column. The proportion is what carries the door, so the rails between them are cut to the same width as the stiles.
No Muntins
Nothing crosses the glass. Each lite is a single unbroken opening, which keeps the door reading as light rather than as pattern.
Shaker Frame
A flat stile and rail frame with square edges. It stays out of the way of the glass, which is its entire job here.
Aligns Across a Pair
Two panels on a bypass track put six lites in a single row of columns, with the rails lining up across the seam.
Choosing Your Glass
This door is glazed. Acid etched is the frosted white shown here and the natural choice for a bathroom or a closet where you want light without a view. Rain adds a vertical ripple that plays against the horizontal rails. Reamy brings a soft handmade waviness that warms up the cleanness of the shaker frame. Aquatex is a finer pebbled texture, quieter than rain and more private than clear. Select yours above before adding the door to your cart.
Three Openings, Three Chances to Rack
Every lite you cut into a door removes material that was holding it square. A three lite frame has to be joined well or it will rack on the track within a season. Ours are built from solid wood in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, squared on the bench, and warrantied for life against warping and twisting.
